Halon Alternatives
The UNEP Halon Technical Options Committee produces a Technical Note On Fire Protection Alternatives To Halons, HCFCS AND HFCS that contains detailed information on halon replacements.
Under its Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is required to evaluate alternative chemicals and processes intended to be used in place of ozone-depleting substances to ensure that they are acceptable from a human health and environmental perspective. Below is a link to EPA's website containing a list of acceptable alternatives for streaming applications (Halon 1211) and total flooding applications (Halon 1301).
